Your Visit

Upon check-in, you will need to provide:

  • Identification
  • Insurance card
  • List of current medications

In addition, you will need to complete a number of forms. For your convenience, these forms are available for both adults and minors for you to print and complete at home, so your check-in will proceed more smoothly.

Ophthalmic Technician
After you have finished the check-in process, one of our ophthalmic technicians will begin preliminary testing. The testing required will vary based on your situation, but you will typically be dilated if it is your first visit or if it has been at least a year since your last dilation.
Ophthalmologist

Following the preliminary testing performed by the ophthalmic technician, you will see your eye doctor who will finish the examination and spend time discussing your situation with you. At Eye Surgeons of Springfield, every patient will see a board certified ophthalmologist on every visit.

Many patients are concerned about driving after receiving dilating drops. Dilating drops cause two effects: large pupils and difficulty focusing. For adults, the drops make the pupils large for 6-12 hours, causing light to be more bothersome. This can be partially helped by using sunglasses. We provide complimentary disposable sunglasses for anyone who needs them. Difficulty focusing usually lasts 3-6 hours, and it commonly affects near vision more than distance vision. Many people feel comfortable driving because their distance vision is less bothered, and they can wear sunglasses for the brightness. Others feel quite impaired by the dilation process. We strongly urge anyone who feels uncomfortable driving after dilation to make other arrangements.

For children, the dilation drops last approximately twice as long as the drops used in adults.

Cox Hospital

Surgery is most commonly performed at CoxHealth Surgery Center on Walnut Lawn. This is an excellent outpatient surgery center. Sometimes patients do not meet the physical criteria that would allow them to have surgery at that facility. In those cases, surgery is performed at Cox South Hospital.
